Your jewelry is an important part of your life and you
want to keep the pieces bright, shiny and in the best shape possible. Jewelry cleaning can help keep your accessories looking great for as long as you
own them.
Here is a list of general care guidelines for your beautiful
jewelry.
Storage -
keep your jewelry in a cool, dry place such as a jewelry box. Do not store
items in a drawer without dividers. Beware of different pieces of jewelry, they
can harm other pieces by rubbing together or become tangled with each other. Use
individual boxes and wrap each piece with a soft cloth or tissue paper if not
using a fabric-lined jewelry box.
Chemicals -
general cleaning products, especially chlorine bleach, can discolor and damage
gems and mounting pieces. Always remove your rings and other jewelry before
house cleaning.
Removal -
take extra precautions when removing rings and bracelets. Do not leave them on top
of the sink when you are washing dishes or your hands. Small pieces can fall
into the sink and be difficult to retrieve.
Professional
cleaners - when cleaning your jewelry at home, use a professional
cleaner and a mild detergent or ammonia and water. After dipping the jewelry in
the cleaner, use a soft cloth or Q-tip to remove dust and dirt particles. Then
allow time for drying before wearing.
Be sure to visit your jeweler every six months for deep cleaning of your jewelry. They will also be able to detect any loose fittings or gems.
